Playas del Coco Investment Guide (Gold Coast, 2026)

I live in Playas del Coco. The Gold Coast runs from Playa Panama down past Tamarindo — Liberia (LIR) 25–40 minutes for most of it. That airport proximity is why short stays work here. Town names matter less than walkability. Below is how I actually think about the corridor when I’m looking at pins.

Why the Gold Coast works for STR

Guests land at LIR and hit the beach in under an hour. That supports shorter stays and higher turnover than the hard-to-reach coasts.

Mature services help too — restaurants, marinas, clinics — and enough Airbnbs that you can check a for-sale ask against real nearby income, not a vibe.

Playas del Coco & Ocotal

Coco is where I am: walkable town, services, wide price band, liquid demand. First-time buyers often start here because you can sell later without praying for one special buyer.

Ocotal, just south, is quieter and more cove-upscale. Same services umbrella — different noise level.

Playa Hermosa & Panama

Hermosa: calmer, residential, longer stays and repeats. Panama: northern anchor near Papagayo luxury.

Both punish inland pins. Get too far from the sand and the occupancy premium dies fast.

Flamingo, Potrero & the Tamarindo area

Flamingo is upmarket (marina). Potrero and Brasilito can be relative value. Tamarindo is the famous one — deepest rental market, also the most competition. Browse Tamarindo for sale ranked by Airbnb income.

Same rule everywhere: a few hundred meters of walk-to-beach or town beats an extra bedroom inland.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the best place to invest in Costa Rica for Airbnb?

Guanacaste's Gold Coast — Playas del Coco, Hermosa, Flamingo, and the Tamarindo area — offers the most mature STR market, thanks to proximity to Liberia airport (LIR) and a large base of real comparable rentals. The best micro-location is always walkable to the beach or town.

How far is Playas del Coco from the airport?

Playas del Coco is roughly 25–40 minutes from Liberia's Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR), one of the shortest airport-to-beach transfers in Costa Rica — a real advantage for short-stay rental demand.

Is Playas del Coco a good place to invest?

It's a popular entry point: a walkable commercial hub with restaurants and services, a broad range of price points, and strong, liquid rental demand. As always, the exact street and walkability to the beach drive the returns more than the town name.

What is the Gold Coast in Costa Rica?

It's the informal name for Guanacaste's northern Pacific beach corridor — from Playa Panama and the Papagayo peninsula down through Coco, Hermosa, Flamingo, and the Tamarindo area — the country's most established beach-tourism and short-term-rental region.

Where can I browse Tamarindo real estate for sale?

Our ranked Tamarindo inventory lives at Tamarindo — not on this Coco-focused guide. For town tradeoffs vs Coco and Nosara, read Tamarindo vs Coco vs Nosara.

Nosara vs Playas del Coco for real estate?

Nosara is premium, remote, and lifestyle-forward; Coco is closer to LIR with deeper liquidity and ranked for-sale inventory on our map. Compare towns in Tamarindo vs Coco vs Nosara — we do not run a Nosara for-sale hub.
